Arriving and leaving
- What time is check-in and check-out?
- Check-in is from 14:00 and check-out is until 11:30. Early check-in is possible when a bed is free, so tell us your arrival time.
- Can I leave my bags before check-in or after check-out?
- Yes. The house has luggage storage, so you can drop your bags and head out.
- Do I need my passport at check-in?
- Yes. Guesthouses in Laos register foreign guests with the local authorities, so please have your passport with you at check-in.
- Do I need to fill in an immigration form before arriving in Laos?
- Travellers can complete the Lao Digital Immigration Form online before arrival. It was introduced in stages from September 2025 at some entry points, with wider rollout planned, so check the official page for your entry point. - How far is the airport, and can you arrange transport?
- Wattay International Airport is about 3 km (1.9 mi) from the house. The team can arrange transport from the airport. Message them with your arrival time. From the airport, step by step.
- Is reception open all night?
- Yes. The team is on site 24 hours, and reception speaks English, Lao and Thai.
The house
- What are the beds like?
- Every bed is a pod, its own cubicle with a privacy curtain, a reading light, a personal power socket and a locker or safe.
- What kind of dorms do you have?
- All the beds are pods, and the dorms include a mixed dorm and a 14-bed dorm. To see which beds are free on your dates, check Booking.com or Agoda, or ask us.
- Is breakfast included?
- Yes. Breakfast is included and served in the café on the ground floor: eggs, bread, sausage, fruit and tea or coffee.
- Are the bathrooms shared?
- Yes. The bathrooms are shared, with hot showers, and they are cleaned several times a day.
- Is there air-conditioning and Wi-Fi?
- Yes: strong air-conditioning and free Wi-Fi.
- Is it a party hostel?
- No. Calm, quiet and respectful. Guests describe it as a place to rest, not a party hostel. Hen and stag parties are not accepted, and there is no smoking anywhere in the house. A quiet stay, in brief.

- What is nearby?
- The house is in Ban Anou, in Chanthabouly District, central Vientiane. The Mekong riverside is 7 minutes’ walk, the Lao National Museum is 8 minutes’ walk, and the night food market is next door. What’s nearby.

- Who runs the house?
- House of Jars is owned and run by Nang, with a team on site day and night.
- Who is Shadow?
- Shadow is the AI concierge on this website. He answers questions about the house and can pass a message to the team. He is an AI, not a person, so he can be wrong: for anything important, contact the team.
- Why is it called House of Jars?
- The name nods to the Plain of Jars, the fields of ancient stone jars in Xieng Khouang province. More about the house.
